Changes at Planetsmeg.
You may have noticed the changes here at Planetsmeg, most of these are to do with getting the site updated with a new database structure that is easier to manage.
I also coded the site to "standard specifications" and this may lead to difficulties with some browsers, I apologise for this but no longer have the time to devote to maintaining for severl different browsers.
Internet Explorer is gradually getting more complient, but in the mean time you can always download (for free) Fiefox or Mozilla and enjoy a better and safer surfing experience.
Please dont hesitate to send me feedback about the site, it always helps.
Thanks,

SFX Magazine recently ran a poll to find viewers' all-time favourite slice of Brit SF.
It was close. Only the narrowest of narrow margins apparently separated Red Dwarf from that elusive top spot, coming in at a still-impressive second place. The winner? Only Doctor Who.
Doug Naylor was interviewed by SFX for their special issue of the magazine, SFX Collection: Best of British, which is due out on August 1st.

Lets help to make the RED DWARF MOVIE a reality.. RIGHT! Time to get serious! Having just witnessed how on-line petitions can save a TV series E.G. Star Trek Enterprise its time we all got together and started signing we want this to be the fastest growing petition to the point of crashing servers!!!!
Tell your friends tell your enemies tell your doctor nurse bit on the side dog cat and fish to get here and sign this petition if we do this right we could seriously grab someone in Hollywood British film industry or even Bollywood we all remember tongue tied ANYONE with the cash to get this going!
Look at it this way if we can get 2 for every signature we get here all we need is 5 million signatures to hopefully start making this film a reality!
http://www.PetitionOnline.com/rdmoviepetition.html
I know this isnt the first time this has been tried but I am planning an all out assault I personally will be visiting every sci-fi site and bulletin board I can find and asking for help! If you know of a website without this petition being mentioned then send them a link please try to keep this message. Add to it edit it but keep the jist going! Lets see if we cant bring the petition server to its knees! If we can get this on the news we can get our movie!
Come on guys stop thinking when is this movie gonna be made and be a part of getting it off the ground!
Yours truly
Tim Gillooley 'Red Dwarf Fan'

Doug Naylor's statement is on line at www.reddwarf.co.uk in which he talks about the upcoming Red Dwarf Movie.
I quote: 'I fully expect that in a matter of a few days, maybe a couple of weeks, Red Dwarf the Movie finally will be green lit, and by early August I expect to be deep into pre-production in Australia'
An interesting read detailing all the problems with funding this mush awaited movie.

Craig Charles launches a new show on ITV1.
It's been a long time since we've seen Craig Charles hosting a chat show, but all that's about to change. Following a stint on The Big Breakfast, not to mention the late night show Funky Bunker, Craig will be returning to the format with Weapons of Mass Distraction. Going out on Friday nights at 12:05am (so yes, technically Saturday morning) on ITV1, the show promises a mix of music, guests and comedy.

Red Dwarf in Perth, Australia !Blak Yak Theatre Proudly Presents
Red Dwarf II - Kryten
'This is an SOS distress call from the mining ship Red Dwarf. The crew are dead, killed by a radiation leak. The only survivors were Dave Lister, who was in suspended animation during the disaster, and his pregnant cat who was safely sealed in the hold. Revived three million years later, Lister's only companions are a life form who evolved from his cat, and Arnold Rimmer, a hologram simulation of his dead bunk mate.
On our journey back to Earth, we have encountered many strange and bizarre things.
Only last month we came across a moon which was shaped exactly like Kylie Minogue's bottom. We flew around that one a couple of times.'
The boys from the Dwarf are back and this time, they've brought a friend . . .

The long-awaited book from Rob Grant entitled Incompetence - a future where someone cannot be fired simply for being utterly useless. A world where European rule has straightened cucumbers and left our hero wearing shoes comprised of vegetable matter. The main character's frustrations at keeping something on his feet will, rest assured, be very much felt by the reader as he travels the world in search of a killer.
Incompetence is out on December 31st in hardback,

Hi. I'd like to inform Red Dwarf fans of an event I'm organising as part of C,o-operative Young Film-Makers 2003. Mike Tucker, special FX supervisor on 'Red Dwarf', will be giving an interactive talk covering his work on the cult series.
Using a never-seen-before 20 minute documentary shot by his team and a number of slides, Mike will be spilling the beans about how he constructed (and blew up) Red Dwarf and Starbug, stirred up snowstorms and created alien planets. Concludes with a Q/A session.
The talk lasts an hour and is COMPLETELY FREE! The date is Saturday October 11th, from 12pm-1pm. The venue is the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television in Bradford, UK. Call 01274 202040 to book seats. There are wheelchair spaces available and also a loop system for those hard of hearing.

Film News: Red Dwarf: The Movie:
Teletext UK reports that at last the film version of the Brit sci-fi/comedy sitcom 'Red Dwarf' is set to start work. Production on the
12 million pounds film begins in October, almost certainly at the Warner Bros. Gold Coast Studios in Australia, and will last 4-5 months. Lister himself Craig Charles said that 'It's been five years in the melting pot and it looks like it's finally going to happen. The script is excellent and everyone is looking forward to making it. 'The makers, Winchester Films, have already provisionally sold it to Australia, Britain and Japan and it should do well in America as it's shown on US TV. Money is still a stumbling block but I think BBC Worldwide is putting cash into it. The budget of 12m is massive for a non-Hollywood movie.

They predominately have props, costumes and model miniatures from Series III onwards, with just a handful of items from I and II. The majority of the props were in storage in shipping containers in Manchester along with lots of sets and general dressing.

Doug Naylor is currently in Australia investigating studio facilities and commencing preliminary design work for intended shooting in late September. The move may come as a surprise to those who expected a Shepperton shoot. 'We had originally planned for Shepperton,' Doug said, 'but at the time we were told there were no studios available. We looked everywhere - Germany, Austria, Italy - and eventually Richard Taylor at Weta (Lord of the Rings) recommended Australia.
